History

Tracy Andrus is founder of Tracy Andrus Foundation and the Center for Correctional Education Research. Dr. Tracy Andrus spent three years in the Louisiana and Texas Departments of Corrections for felony check kiting. Andrus was released from prison in 1994. Tracy Andrus enrolled in college in 1995 and the rest is history. Andrus earned a bachelors degree in criminal justice from Louisiana College in Pineville, La, a masters degree in criminal justice from the University of Louisiana Monroe, and became the first African American in the United States to earn a PhD in Juvenile Justice from Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas in 2005.

Tracy Andrus has served as Director of the Lee P. Brown Criminal Justice Institute at Wiley College since 2006. Dr. Andrus has served as Executive Director of Wiley College’s Second Chance Pell Program and is a very passionate advocate and supporter of reinstating Second Chance Pell grants for all offenders.

Dr. Sonya Burnett-Andrus

Dr. Sonya Burnett-Andrus is a seasoned academician and educator. Dr. Burnett-Andrus has served as Dean of General Education for eight years, and currently serves as an administrator for the Marshall, Texas Independent School District in Marshall, Texas.

Dr. Burnett-Andrus is an experienced researcher and author who is passionate about criminal justice and correctional education research.
